Long time no post, folks! I doubt anyone still checks this blog for new translations but I have seen my old ones used over the years even on the English NND for translation via video comments (properly attributed or not). I haven't been actively studying Japanese but as was tradition years ago, I got an ATOLS song stuck in my head and felt the need to translate it.
I don't see myself translating songs on a regular basis like I did back in high school, but I hope that this translation 1) does the song justice and 2) shows how my understanding of the Japanese language and how other translators operate has changed over the years. I did take pride in my more active years and enjoyed those times when composers would reply to my tweets in thanks for the translation.
If you would like to keep up with me, I am on Tumblr as fleurite!
and shut away.
Keep it down, the fire shall be lit.
That sacred flame that sears into your mind.
I shall grant unto you a single wish.
On the world stage forgotten by everybody,
I shall gently nestle close to you and see you off.
At a banquet of curses unending
and fires set,
Silhouettes swirl about as the recompense
Floats into the night sky.
Pass it around,
Pass it out, pass it out, piece it out-out,
All the riches up in the air.
Entrust them to me, entrust your dreams.
The legend shall continue.
Pass it around, pass it out, piece it out-out,
All the riches up in the air.
Bodhidharma has fallen down.
“It” is nowhere to be seen.
Pass it around,
